The Mona Lisa is one of the most renowned and well-known paintings around the world. To me, it is one of the most beautiful works of art. The first thing that I noticed after learning about the elements involved in the creation of art, was the emphasis that was placed on lines and texture. The depth that is created through the lines and texture in this piece adds to the transition between dark and light in the foreground. The color of the figure and the background allow the onlooker to clearly create a visual divide between the main focus the "Mona Lisa" and the background. Without the focus being directed by the artist, the viewer might be confused about where to focus their attention. Da Vinci did not create the texture by actually building up paint on the canvas. He used shadowing techniques to create a visual effect for the viewer. The gaze of the viewer is almost immediately drawn to the Mona Lisa no matter where they are located when observing. She is depicted from a real-life perspective and appears to be very realistic. The scale and proportion created in this painting allow for the painting to look more life-sized. With Mona Lisa does not appear too large and is on a life-like scale.
Davinci was also able to create layering in this painting. His layering of color created a realistic approach to the Mona Lisa. There is a precision taken on the detailing of her hair and her clothing that allows the viewer to feel as though they are seeing a real person on a canvas. The art da Vinci created is absolutely amazing. The way that Leonardo da Vinci not only used the elements of art but combined them is one of the most impressive things. This created a harmonious balance on the canvas. The Renaissance was a time when people used realism and naturalism in their paintings. This painting is very Renaissance-inspired down to the way her hands are drawn. Everything about this painting is so realistic. The smoky effects created in the background also provide a blur that serves to bring the eye of the onlooker right to the Mona Lisas' eyes. Her clothing appears soft due to the colors and the lines he uses.
Mona Lisa is such an impressive oil painting because of the techniques that Leonardo da Vinci created. This painting is now hung up in the Louvre Museum in Paris. it was created in the 1500s in Florence. It has come to be known as one of the most famous paintings in the world. The Mona Lisa is connected to the Medici family and the Roman Catholic Church. Art was reserved for the rich and powerful through the Catholic Church. There are some theories about who commissioned the painting of the Mona Lisa. One is that Francesco de' Medici the ruler of the Republic of Florence, is one of the individuals who commissioned the painting. It was believed that Medici was the brother of Pope Leo X who Leonardo then painted a portrait of his brothers' deceased love. This was supposed to be a stand-in for a photograph for him. This is just one of many theories. The Mona Lisa also is a great representation of humanism. The Mona Lisa represents the focus of human beings and realism. It was revolutionary in human paintings and showed a human subject as the main focus broadcasted in a very realistic manner. Before this, paintings were very lifeless and emotionless. The Mona Lisa is a depiction of a beautiful woman with a slight smile. Her facial features allow for the look of a happy woman. This piece of art was one of a kind and it is a leader in the humanism department. The Italian Renaissance was a big inspiration in this piece. The depiction of women in this painting is a very typical portrayal of women during this time. Paintings of both men and women in this time were typically cut off at the torso like the one above. This view with the ability to see her arms gives us the perspective that we see her whole person. This is due to the jump forward in naturalism during the Italian Renaissance. This is a painting that has stood as one of the most renowned paintings in the world for centuries. This is a genius work and I think it is simply beautiful.

Hey Hannah! One of the things I found appealing was all of the different techniques that went into this masterpiece. I love the coloring layering because of how precise it is, and how the layering truly plays a part in this work of art. this connection between the Mona Lisa and the medici family, as well as the roman catholic church is inspiring in many ways especially being a catholic myself. Additionally I would like to say is how fascinating it is that in a way this work of art as transcended time, its held in Paris, but still inspires many interpretations across the world till this day.
