First Blog Post Art 200x Hannah Brooks
Introduction:
My name is Hannah Brooks and I am a transfer student here at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I am a senior and finishing my biology degree here. I have played basketball my whole life so this is the first time in my college career that I am no longer playing which has been an adjustment. I am very excited, however, to devote more time to my studies and start preparing for the healthcare field that I hope to be a part of one day. I am from Syracuse, New York and this is my first time coming to Alaska. I am super excited for this year and the coming semester. While I am not the most talented in the art department, I love looking at and evaluating art.

Background and Relationship to Art:
While I may not be very talented at art myself. I love looking at the gifts that so many other individuals have. Art has a way of making me feel calm when I get anxious. paintings seem to transport you into another world and it is a captivating and thrilling feeling. It is admirable to see the ability of another human being, able to create and transport another individual the way artists do. I think art can help people in so many different ways and allows your brain to be at ease. Through many mental health struggles, I feel as though art has been something to free my mind. It allows a space to escape reality. Art can be a powerful form of therapy for many people, which just enhances why art is so powerful and important.
Favorite Artist:
My best friend Mara Durkin is my favorite artist and she studies at Savannah College of Art and Design. Her work always inspires me and impresses me with how creative and talented individuals can be. She never fails to come up with something breathtaking. I know she will be doing and creating amazing things in the future and I can't wait to see her shine.
Aside from her, my favorite artist would have to be Vincent van Gogh. I have loved his Starry Night painting since I saw it for the first time in middle school. My great-grandmother always had it hanging in her house and I think since she passed it reminds me of her. His use of such a simple but complex image has always amazed me.
"Starry Night" is such a wonderful painting. It is so famous and iconic for a reason. Sadly, it is harder and harder to see a starry night due to light pollution.
