Art Elements Blog Post Hannah Brooks
Work of Art :

1) The work of art that I chose was Starry Night by Van Gogh again as I wanted to research more about my favorite painting. This painting has many aspects of the art elements we have studied during this week's lesson.
2) The elements of art are crucial components that highlight the way different pieces of work are different. There are many elements that artists utilize to create differing aspects of their work. The elements that I see included are line, texture, and color/light. The line elements that he used for the sky created a rotating curve which showed the direction of the night sky and also created the structure of a skyline. The color adds dimension and the concept of color to the piece of art. The shapes created a two-dimensional look to the piece as well. The illusion of space created a physical and natural appeal to the work of art. The illusion of space creates the foreground for the picture.
The texture is created to show surface quality. This adds a realistic look to the artwork. The brushstrokes that are shown in the blue sky show that there are areas rich with texture. The brushstrokes provide an area that looks rich in texture. The shape of the tree in the front creates shape to the image as well. This created the form of the buildings on the bottom. The rich texture areas draw your eye to certain areas of the painting with texture highlighted with color.
The color in this appears to highlight the blue. The yellow highlights the sky and allows a path to follow for the blue composition that is present. The highlights of yellow provide a crucial component that instructs the reader where to follow the yellow color lines along the painting.
3) This Western art oil canvas painting would be in an Art gallery. It is a renowned and very famous painting. The Starry Night is featured and kept at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (Anderson, 2019). The backstory of this painting was from a letter that Van Gogh wrote to his brother. He spoke about seeing the starry night sky, which then provided him with inspiration for this beautiful piece of art. This took the course of many sessions during the day for Van Gogh to finish this. He uses tubes to create the thick lines that are seen and he had to take precise detail to complete this. This artwork provides a sense of hope. However many believe that this painting showed Van Goghs deteriorating mental state. Such a beautiful vision of art may have been from Van Gogh's illness and mental downfall.
4) Vincent Van Gogh created this painting in 1889 in Saint-Paul-de-Mausole Saint-Remy, France (Barr, 2019). He lived there for a year and had a breakdown a year after that. He also lost his left ear in the same year. This image was one that he had captured from his bedroom window. This was created during his reprieve from trying to get through his mental illness, which is again why people speculate that this imagery was in response to his mental illness. He made a vision that has been imprinted on individuals forever.
